Your post has given me much to think about, and I definitely want to try the life mapping activity you shared. I have often lamented the fact that looking back at old journals and other writing of mine I noticed this trend where I kept repeating the same thoughts of feeling stuck, feeling I have stagnated and have no purpose or drive. Until reading this post I would despair upon realizing this and think that I had never made any progress because I kept having these thoughts. Now with the idea of a life map in mind, I wonder if instead what was happening is that those moments just came at the end of a cycle in the map where old patterns were ready to be shed to move on to the next stage of evolution. I don't know if that is accurate, but it at least gives me a new way to consider it that might be more useful than just thinking I haven't gone anywhere in life.
